Baseball Off to a Strong Start

The Coventry varsity baseball team opened its 2026 season with a 5-3 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas on March 28. Jr. Ryan Snyder had a big game going 4 for 5 at the plate and scoring 3 runs. He also started the game on the mound, throwing the first 4 innings giving up 3 runs and striking out 8. Jr. Cody Basinger pitched the final 3 innings giving up one hit, zero runs and striking out 7 while picking up the victory. Jr. Charlie Batten recorded two hits with a run scored and So. Matt Wood had a hit and scored a run. Also collecting hits for the Comets were So. Braxton Leasure, Cody Basinger, Fr. Jace Gurganus and Fr. Mason Leasure.
Game - 2 (loss 3-2, 1-1) The Varsity Comets lost a heartbreaker to Smithville 3-2 in their home opener on March 30. Charlie Batten threw a great 5 innings as the starting pitcher, giving up 3 hits, 2 earned runs while striking out 7. So. Brandon Graham took the hard luck loss in relief, surrendering an unearned run in the seventh inning while only giving up 2 hits and striking out 2. Jace Gurganus led with 2 hits and Ryan Snyder recorded one hit with the 2 runs scored while Matt Wood and Charlie Batten collected the other two hits.
